How do I create a Google App Password?

Because Mail Memories runs locally on your machine, it uses Google’s official “App Password” framework to establish a secure connection without ever exposing your primary account credentials.

1

Enable 2-Step Verification inside your Google Account settings.

2

Go to the Google App Passwords page and generate a new password named “Mail Memories”.

3

Copy the generated 16-character code (ignoring spaces) and paste it straight into the Mail Memories login screen.

How long does a full download take?

It depends on the size of your inbox and your internet speed. If you have an email account from 2008 with thousands of photos, downloading them all could take a few hours. We recommend starting the process, plugging your computer into power, and letting it run in the background.

What if my computer goes to sleep or loses internet?

No problem, Mail Memories keeps track of its progress. If your computer goes to sleep, your internet drops, or you accidentally close the app, simply open it back up. It will automatically resume the download exactly where it left off.

Where do my downloaded photos go?

By default, the app creates a new folder called “Mail Memories” inside your computer’s main Pictures folder. Inside that folder, your photos are automatically sorted into subfolders by year (e.g., 2008, 2009, 2010).

I paid, but my app is still locked.

Sometimes it takes a few seconds for Stripe to securely notify the app that your payment was successful. Try completely closing the Mail Memories app and reopening it. If it still hasn’t unlocked your email address, email us and we’ll fix it immediately.

How do I uninstall the app?

Mac: Open your Applications folder and drag Mail Memories to the Trash.
Windows: Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, find Mail Memories, and click Uninstall.

Note: Uninstalling the app will not delete the photos you’ve already downloaded. Those are safely stored in your Pictures folder.
